Boardman girls win bowling sectional

OAKWOOD VILLAGE — Paced by overall top individual Lexus Petrich, the Boardman girls bowling team rolled to a Division I sectional championship on Saturday at Roseland Lanes.

The Spartans outpointed runner-up Howland by 362 pins. The Tigers will join Boardman, the Warren G. Harding boys team, and two individuals, Shyana Beers of Niles and Jared Vrabel of Howland, in the district competition next Saturday at Stonehedge Lanes in Akron.

Petrich, a junior, rolled a 641 in three qualifying games to pace Boardman to a team score of 3,484. She was supported by fellow junior Josalyn Hibbard, who placed fifth among individuals.

Howland had four girls in the top 15 places — Kayla Bross in seventh, Bailey Braham in ninth, Elexis Forte in 13th and Gillian McMurray, tied for 15th.

Harding’s boys were led by senior Andrew Bowshot, in fifth place among individuals. Braylen Schuller was 12th and Everett Burd tied for 14th to add support.

Beers, a senior for Niles, was fourth among individuals in the girls competition, while Vrabel, a Howland freshman, was seventh in the boys event.

Today, the Division II boys district competition is scheduled to start at noon at Nautica Lanes in Avon Lake. The girls’ D-II district is Monday, also at noon at Nautica Lanes.
