Let’s put a stop to the nonsense

DEAR EDITOR: Elections have consequences. Isn’t that what they always say? Especially the winning side. Could it be the consequences of this past election have put our country in danger of being physically attacked by our adversaries? These rounds of blanket firings of government employees without a thorough examination of their duties has led to this possibility. Combine that with the ineptitude of those charged with leading these agencies (because of their political loyalties) and you have a perfect storm. The most blatant example is the recent firing of hundreds of employees of ...

Star Parker got it wrong yet again

DEAR EDITOR: Not even one month into the “Trusk” administration, Star Parker (Vindy, 2/6/25) is announcing a new savior: Elon Musk. Why is he uniquely qualified for this messianic role? Because, says Parker, he’s too rich to be tempted by “the Washington culture of quid pro quo.” As usual, Ms. Parker has not thought this through. She’s wrong on at least two counts. First, there’s only one Messiah, and we all know who that is for the MAGA crowd (recall Trump’s “I alone can save you”?). How long until these two mammoth megalomaniacs realize that they can’t ...

Ohio values demand that we defend USAID

DEAR EDITOR: If there’s one thing Ohioans know, it’s loyalty, hard work, and looking out for our neighbors. We’re a state built on industry, farming, and community — when someone’s in trouble, we step up. That’s why it’s baffling that our politicians are rolling over while Elon Musk spreads lies to dismantle USAID, one of the most efficient, life-saving agencies in our government. For more than 60 years, USAID’s civil servants and foreign service officers have served under both Republican and Democratic administrations, not because they had a political agenda, but ...

Sound off! Readers share their thoughts

In my perfect justice system my cops will arrest you, my investigators will investigate you, my judges will hear my lawyers prosecute you and you will be convicted unless judge and jury actually follow laws I have yet to rewrite. You will be imprisoned in another country where I pay your keep (with your taxes) and where you will have no right to appeal or to have visitors. Guess who I am. If you can’t, your red ball cap may be so tight it’s interfering with your thought processes. Everyone else, raise your voice, cast your ballot. — Canfield When there is no money left for ...

Lots to enjoy in The Vindicator

DEAR EDITOR: As a Vindicator subscriber for decades, I find it a great source for national and local news. Another great read is Farm and Dairy, printed in nearby Salem since 1914. Pick up a copy at newsstands if you are interested in how agriculture affects all of us. You will learn how the new administration’s policies affect farmers and the food on your table, as well as school lunches and food stamps. There are also many other (and often amusing) articles, a full page or recipes, and human interest stories — one such story was of neighbors, friends and strangers pulling ...

A solution that is in search of a problem

DEAR EDITOR: Like all members of Congress last week, no doubt Mike Rulli was flooded with calls pleading with him to do something to stop Elon Musk and Donald Trump from tearing apart our country’s institutions. In response, Reps. Rulli and Dave Joyce came up with a bill to fix a problem so obscure that few have ever heard of it, to keep a Chinese club out of public schools. I respond with the following points: 1. China doesn’t have to infiltrate our schools for information. It need only ask its friend Musk, whose gang of questionable young marauders took control of all the ...
