Slice some salami instead of benefits

DEAR EDITOR: Just over a week ago, I attended the demonstration against Mike Rulli at his Canfield office location. There was a decent turnout despite being rather blustery. And there were a lot of great signs, such as, “Slice Salami — Not Benefits!” It was noisy, with cars enthusiastically honking their support. Now comes the hard part. There were no union members there, just former member retirees. And, other than the union staff guy, there was no one there under the age of 50. OK, here it comes … “I had to work.” Come on, people. DEAR EDITOR: Regarding the “Onion” Letters to the Editor about the hiring of Dr. Ron Sahu as an expert witness for the appeal the city of Youngstown filed with the Ohio EPA. The opinion no matter how well intended, shows a lack of understanding of how serious this issue is and the needed expertise to fight for the rights of all people, including Youngstown residents to have to clean air, clean water and safe communities to live in. DEAR EDITOR: I am writing about the deportation of more than 200 Venezuelans to a harsh prison in El Salvador. They have been “disappeared.” Their names are not published. We are paying $6 million a year to house them there. The Trump administration alleges that they are members of a Venezuelan gang, but they had no opportunity to defend themselves against this charge.
