Don’t be distracted by foreign policy

DEAR EDITOR: I hope my fellow Americans are not fooled by the distraction of what Trump is doing in the rest of the world. Pay attention to the destruction and devastation he is causing in the United States. We have to fight back and put a stop to this before there is nothing left to fight for and no one left to care. Premature pumpkin carving is an epidemic

DEAR EDITOR: I have been very troubled by what appears to be a recent influx of premature pumpkin carving in Columbiana and Mahoning counties. I define pumpkin carving as premature when the carved pumpkins are almost certainly carved on a date before Halloween, which would result in them being rotted and therefore decommissioned for the very holiday for which they were meant to serve. My grievance has nothing to do with concern for Halloween-themed decor starting too early into the fall, absolutely not. Rather, carved pumpkins are perishable and should be afforded the appropriate ...

Sound off!

I am a proud parent of a child with a disability. What this administration is doing to this population is a disgrace. Whether you voted for Trump or not, as a parent of a child with a disability you should be outraged, too. Medicaid, Medicare and SNAP benefits have been dramatically cut. Now, the Education Department fired all employees of the Special Education Department, having a negative effect on our children to get an equal education. This fits right into Trump’s record of showing little regard for people with disabilities. — Poland The entire Trump campaign and ...

Congress is shirking its responsibility to us

DEAR EDITOR: When Congress fails to fund the government (your government, the one you pay plentiful taxes to keep running) it’s not just gridlock. It’s a shameful collapse of responsibility. Federal employees across the country have been sent home without pay or ordered to keep working for free until elected officials remember how to govern. These people are your neighbors. The people who run our federal prisons, inspect our food, maintain our parks, process Social Security and veterans’ benefits and keep planes safely in the air. They’re ordinary Americans doing essential ...

Is anyone paying attention to the debt?

DEAR EDITOR: It is truly sad that Congress and our presidents are more concerned about passing a budget without reducing our national debt. Each American’s share of our $37 trillion dollar debt is over $110,000. We owe $2.6 billion each day in interest alone and much of the debt we owe is to countries like Japan, United Kingdom, China and Canada. It is projected that we will owe $40-47 trillion in five years. Is this the legacy we want to leave those that come after us? Congress and our presidents should take heed from past presidents. George Washington cautioned against ...

When will Judge Napolitano get it right?

DEAR EDITOR: Judge Andrew Napolitano’s weekly (“weakly”) argued opinion in The Vindicator’s Sept. 27-28 edition again presented an articulation of erroneous procedural facts and substantive mischaracterization of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in a recent Immigration case. He correctly characterizes the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, to prohibit an unreasonable governmental search of a person’s papers, but accuracy ends there. First: He demonstrates lack of understanding of the case he apparently references (Noem vs Perdomo) decided by the U.S. Supreme Court ...
