On Nov. 7, 2025 I filed a civil complaint in Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas against the Boardman Township Trustees et. al. Judge R. Scott Krichbaum, a Boardman resident, will be presiding at trial should sides fail to agree on a settlement and / or Judge Krichbaum dismisses the suit. As Judge Krichbaum will be hanging up his robe at the end of the year I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on his distinguished career on the bench and wish him the very best in retirement.

WOW…2,000 dollars was going to every American and now only going to "working" Americans. So, he's going to stiff everyone else of tariff money. Doesn't he think the people who worked all their lives deserve that money? They pay out huge for their medical insurance and land taxes, and it sure would be nice for them to get a bonus too. They built this country. They pay tariff costs. All I can say is WOW.

All too often people comment that Trump's economy was better than Biden's until COVID hit. They forget that Obama led the nation out of the Great Recession and left Trump with a growing economy. Those in 45's first administration stopped him from screwing it up. COVID shut down the entire world. Biden brought our nation back faster than any other country as inflation ravaged the world. Trump's tariff taxes are now increasing inflation. This time no one stopped him because he surrounded himself with yes men .

Please be mindful of wildlife when you are decorating for Christmas. Birds see artificial red berries on wreaths and holly as food and eat them. They choke on them and starve. They're drawn to red and don't know it's not food. Please do not use a leaf blower in beds around your flowers. Queen bees sleep there for the winter and many insects and small animals winter under leaves. Leaves will decompose and give much needed nutrients to your lawns. They do not have to be picked up. Nature is beautiful.

We are approaching almost a decade dealing with the once magnificent empty Strouss store, now owned by the city of Youngstown. After many grants, etc., nothing has been accomplished! Now the 1st Ward councilman proposes city public departments to occupy this structure? How about building a grocery store, pharmacy and other shops on the first floor which could supplement apartments here and elsewhere downtown? Many of us have lacked faith in decisions made by the city's administration!

When Officer Grubb was acquitted of killing Ms. Young, I knew someone was going to bring race into it. Sure enough a defense counselor said,"It would have been a different outcome if she were white." You want a different outcome? Don't steal. You want a different outcome, immediately do as the officer tells you without running your mouth. If not for her decisions, none of this would have happened. Don't think you are above the law.

Bishop Bonnar's decision regarding funeral visitation disappointed and angered many in the Catholic population. The bishop stated the decision was made after consulting with funeral directors, presbyteral council and deans. There was no mention consulting the faithful he was sent here to serve. People who hold church visitations do so for variius reasons. For the elderly, it is safe and convenient. For small families it is more comforting. The majority don't do it to cut costs. It is more likely that the loved one desired to be shown in the church that they worshipped in and loved.

It is simply murder that is happening to "boaters" leaving Venezuela, as they could be immigrants trying to leave the country and have nothing to do with drugs. Yet, MAGA says nothing. Why not just continue the ACA and allow subscribers to keep their health insurance? This is because Trump hates Obama and wants it tanked, yet there is no new help for the insured.

Recently a Struthers High School student was arrested for possession, using and selling illegal drugs to other students. And, he also possessed firearms! This destruction of our young ones has to stop. Maybe starting with fourth grade students, a visit to the county jail or federal prison might wake them up to the results of a lifestyle of drug use. Maybe Sheriff Green and the wardens of our federal Prisons could make and present a video showing what life is like when confined. We have to reach these young,impressionable people ASAP!

In the movie, "The Pelican Brief," the 'oil and gas industries' are trying to sneak by environmental laws in destroying the coastlines with drilling in Louisiana. Trump's latest attack on our national health and environment is proposing leases for companies in California, Florida and Alaska, despite the devastation and damage it will be to health issues and the environment. Just as with the lives of immigrants, he just doesn't care.

In her "Washington grieving" column, Froma Harrop incorrectly stated that only one U.S. state, Wisconsin, had senators that represent both parties. You would think that someone advertised to be an "independent voice on politics" would know that Pennsylvania also has senators that represent both parties: Republican Dave McCormick and the often referenced Democrat John Fetterman. Given her inability to get such a simple fact correct, I have stopped reading her column. I can't trust anything she writes and I don't understand why The Vindicator continues to publish her.

SNAP is one of the most effective and efficient programs in our nation. Keeping millions from going hungry supports local groceries, farmers and small businesses. The decree by the Diocese of Youngstown to cease funeral visitations in the church buildings is long overdue. Some visitations resemble a social gathering. Bishop Bonnar's letter of 10/28/2025 states \"the sacred space is compromised by noise and activity unbecoming to the Blessed Sacrament\". Membership problems in the Catholic Church are due to reasons unrelated to funerals. Clergy and religious absolutely are entitled to have visitations in the church to which they have dedicated their lives.

I urge the Mahoning County Library Board to do what's right for all of Mahoning County. I have voted for every levy to support the library over my adult life, but if you continue to put money into the Poland library, I will never vote for the levy again. To all 2,000 who signed a petition and public officials who have come out in support of saving the library step up and buy it from the library. Don't ask the rest of Mahoning County to continue to throw good money after bad. Poland supporters pass a tax levy in Poland, and buy it

Re: "10 traffic signals to be removed in city." I say it's about time! I had a conversation with state Sen. Al Cutrona regarding that very idea a few months ago. Traffic lights turning red when no traffic needs to cross or to assist entrance or exit into businesses which are closed should be flashers or removed. But don't stop there! The same situation exists on Shields Road, 224, 46 and I'm sure many other roads. These signals have not been modernized or altered in decades.

In the future, history will reveal to all Americans that Trump was an evil person. At the end of his last term he persuaded millions of his supporters to ignore the COVID recommendation to wear masks resulting in a higher percentage of them dying than in blue counties. They will note that hundreds of thousands of people died in poor countries because he allowed food to rot in wearhouses. Hundreds if not thousands of Americans will suffer or die over the next 3 years because they can't afford health care. As it is with all bullies, cruelty and power is the point. As a Democrat, I agree with ending the shutdown now. Trump and his republican followers are using this as another way to discredit the Democratic party. Their resistance to negotiate anything shows this. Even if they did make a deal today it would not be honored down the road. This episode is what the Democrats need to focus on in the next election cycle because they are simply outnumbered now.

Many people work remotely, rarely leave their homes or interact with colleagues. Online shopping is prevalent, we don't have the social interaction of a mall or speaking to a sales clerk. Customer service is a series of robotic steps. Social connections entail a small group of like-minded people. We only know others as labels. Unless this changes, the culture of hate never will.

He carps about how some of his ICE soldiers (and real soldiers) are being "attacked" while at work. He rants that those "attackers" should be thrown in jail. Why then was he OK pardoning his rioters (or as he calls them "patriots") that savagely beat up the police that were defending the Capitol?

People may not have rides to the store anymore to get food as people use first of month to take them and holiday will be approaching and they may not have time to help now. And in cold weather you use up all the food you ate for body heat. Now people have no food to even manage that. Old and weak people who need home meals delivered via SNAP benefits are going without. Please slow down and be aware to avoid collisions with deer. Other animals are leaving their mothers and are going out on their own for the first time. While I'm not a resident of Boardman, I do work there. I travel both Glenwood and Southern Boulevard, often at night or in the morning when it's dark. Both of these streets are unbelievably dangerous due to the fact that there are no streetlights. Glenwood is particularly bad because it is four lanes and has numerous side streets entering the corridor. It is next to impossible to see the intersection you are looking for until you are right on it or have passed it by.

Add in the fact that there are frequently deer crossing the road and you have an even more treacherous situation. Surprisingly, many of the side streets that enter Glenwood are two-lane and have a 25 mph speed limit actually do have lighting, which makes absolutely no sense. Would it be too much to ask to at least have streetlights at the intersections so one can see where to make a turn? I'm sure Boardman can afford to provide drivers with a little bit of safety.

The USA is unique among most modern nations in its lack of a modern rail transportation system. It's a paradox that the country that spawned most of the advances of the hundred years continues to depend solely on air as the only way to travel long-distance. The airline industry lobby wields a lop-sided amount of power in our governments, quashing any effort to create a high-speed rail alternative to our costly, fragile, but highly profitable air travel system. The time has long passed to break the airline monopoly on long-distance travel. The Ohio legislature could take a baby-step and move forward to develop one high speed rail corridor connecting Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. Regardless of weather or air traffic capacity, business and travel would flow freely in the Buckeye State. The competitive advantage would be enormous.

Trump's secret ICE police have arrested and detained more than 200 people who are noncriminal citizens. They're not the worst of anything. In the 1970s, when many dolphins were inadvertently snagged and died in commercial fishing nets, laws were made and enforced to change the fishing method. Why is there so much animal abuse, neglect and hoarding happening in our area? Recent reports of the woman in Salem starving four poor horses to death in locked stalls, Animal Charity rescuing countless cats and dogs from deplorable conditions and general lack of basic care of animals is too prevalent. If you cannot or do not want to care for your animals call a rescue, or Animal Charity to surrender the animals without questions. And most importantly, spay and neuter your pets.

In reading the Oct. 21 front page story of James Comey's trial and his lawyers' claim that the case is "driven by Trump's personal animus," the president is probably thinking to himself: "Welcome to My World" because he's had plenty of Dem-driven witch hunts laid upon him. How appropriate that Comey's trial is taking place during Halloween -- the witch-hunt season. This is a prime example of the pot calling the kettle black.

A recent edition of your newspaper had another full page of property tax issues for cities, towns and villages in Mahoning County. Since the recent revaluation, my taxes have been increased from $3,600 to $4,800 per year. That's a 33% increase. Since the rate of inflation is around 3% that amounts to a 30% increase in income for the governmental units who are asking us for more money. I plan to vote on Nov. 4 and I mean to say "NO" to all taxes that apply to me.

Trump, liar-in-chief, said he wouldn't tear down the East Wing of the Peoples' White House, but has done so, and is building a 90,000-square-foot gigantic ballroom addition, larger than the White House, that has ballooned from $200 million to $300 million hundred in cost. Believe me, by the time it is complete, it will have cost $1 billion more for furnishings and tacky 'gold' decorations. Decades of history will have been erased and WE will be paying for Trump's folly.

I see the illustrious Al Cutrona appeasing his local constituants in Poland! If he and others were genuine about saving the Poland Library building they might offer to help raise funds to save it. Methinks a GoFund me account would be a start! Responsible solutions are the way. Cheers!

Some of the comments from the mayor in the paper today about SOBE leave me amazed. The city and do gooders have harassed, sued the company and tied them up in court for years now. Stopping the plans to upgrade and expand capabilities. Then when the company is broke from fighting city hall and basically abandons the business, the city cries and asks how did this happen? Then the mayor takes it out on the new guy the court put in place to fix things. Go figure!

Rather than deporting hard-working immigrants, craft a path to citizenship. Rather than sending billions to Argentina, help American farmers. Rather than destroying ACA, design a better plan. Rather than creating a "tasteless, gaudy, faux gold" Oval Office, fund the arts Rather than spending billions desecrating the iconic rose garden with a concrete patio and knocking down part of the "people's house" to create a "Mar-a-Lago North" ballroom, fund medical research, public broadcasting and education.

If you're an unpaid government employee or one of the 7 million patriots who plainly, peacefully and loudly voiced their disregard for Trump, you probably won't like his ballroom. It's being grafted to the White House like a Frankenstein limb. Trump told you he would pay for it. He didn't tell you he would put the bite on defense contractors for most of the cash. So, you'll pay taxes to cover weapon systems costs.
