Silencing educational institutions

DEAR EDITOR: So, how do we go about dumbing down America more than it is already? Well, for openers, how about eliminating the Department of Education and truncating appropriate funding for public schools. These are but two ways of compromising learning for our children. Want to know more about the other insidious machinations being perpetrated on our citizenry? One need only peruse that destructive document, Project 2025, published by the Heritage Foundation, and its mutant document, Ohio SB-1. DEAR EDITOR: I see where Mike Johnson, President Trump and the Republican party is wishing millions of Americans and their children and families by allowing ACA coverage to disappear. The shiny newsletter we just received from Mahoning County gives the following confusing statement: “Ohio law prevents automatic tax increases when property values rise, keeping levy collection steady.” In 2024, my real estate tax bill increased $557 from 2023 due to the property revaluation. It was very much “automatic.” Instead of what was printed, the space in the newsletter could have been better utilized explaining property tax legislative changes on the horizon and whether or not the governor has given them his signature. — Poland Now the president is on a domestic ...

Correct infrastructure problems in county

DEAR EDITOR: The recent infrastructure failures at the Trumbull County jail are symptomatic of a larger, countywide problem. Those boiler, roofing and plumbing issues should never have progressed to the point of failure. Mr. Dunnigan has made a start in checking the roofs on several county buildings. But this is an effort that must expand to plumbing, HVAC, parking lots, electrical, etc. on all buildings. System conditions must be documented and estimates made of expected lifespan for each system. Further, the county must institute a capital improvement fund (if one does not exist) ...

Avoid rushing to judgment on Ursuline

DEAR EDITOR: I am deeply concerned by the recent allegations involving a few members of the Ursuline High School football team. Since these reports surfaced, additional stories of bullying and violence have come to light. Unfortunately, many have already judged the accused in the court of public opinion, denying them the opportunity to defend themselves before a judge. The resignation of long-serving coaches and staff has been widely interpreted as evidence of a cover-up, with guilt assigned by association. Why have we allowed dumbing down of US?

DEAR EDITOR: On Dec. 2, 2025, The Vindicator printed an editorial by Victor David Hanson, titled, “Can the ‘Lost Generation’ ever be found?” It is about Americans born between 1997 and 2012, now between 13 and 28 years old. I believe Professor Hanson is too conservative in his observation; we have several lost generations. Lost due to misdirected educations, not focusing on the “three Rs,” as previous eras were taught.
