Today’s party is not filled with your dad’s Democrats

DEAR EDITOR: Who are you? Do you identify as a Democrat from days gone by or do you identify with the new Socialists saying they are Democrats? I have been registered as a Democrat for over 60 years, but since the Biden administration created all the problems Congress is now attempting to correct, I have been trying to choose issues-only ballots in the primaries. If the Democratic Party leaders are not supporting socialist ideas, then why haven’t they confronted AOC, Bernie Sanders, Mamdani and others promoting socialism, and said either abide by our standards or you will no ...

Thank you to two Hubbard EMTs for their assistance

DEAR EDITOR: Thanks to Joint Eagle Fire District EMTs Jeremy and McKenzie, both of whom were very compassionate and professional in responding to my need for help recently. As a Hubbard city taxpayer, I finally “benefitted” from the fire levy. I make no apologies to Chief Stanish, whom I’ve pestered the past several years with visits and notes to the station, about emergency runs to Interstate 80, where the recovery of a crash victim’s billing costs may be a pipe dream. RFK Jr. is most definitely the right man for the job

DEAR EDITOR: This is in rebuttal to a letter to the editor titled “RFK Jr. one of Trump’s biggest mistakes.” I couldn’t disagree more. The writer parroted many misconceptions and false information that we’ve been fed ad nauseam. Because the writer along with the majority of people have no idea that science, medicine and public health, up until this point, have been completely captured by the pharmaceutical industry. I’ve written many letters to the editor of this paper about the autism epidemic. It’s personal, as I have a soon-to-be 30-year-old nonspeaking epileptic ...

The simple truth is that Ohioans are fat

DEAR EDITOR: Regarding the editorial, “Ohio and WV face serious health issues.” You don’t need extensive studies to know one thing — Ohioans are fat. After living elsewhere for many years we moved back to Youngstown and immediately noticed that Ohio had serious health problems. Besides the weight issues many people here still smoke. It is easy to blame it on bad weather but there is more to it than that. There may be contributing factors like all the abandoned natural gas wells that dot the landscape or contaminated drinking water. Also, food is tasty and cheap! ...

Trump, Republicans are acting immune to the law

DEAR EDITOR: Republican senators have swarmed to join in President Trump’s immunity to the law to protest a lawful warrant issued for phone numbers they called during the Jan. 6 insurrection. Just the numbers, not who or what. You, citizen, can’t do that, let alone demand $500,000 to punish the investigators. The same people now recommend hanging “traitors,” who stated in a tv commercial, the law that military personnel are not bound to follow unlawful orders. When Trump does order troops to just “shoot them in the legs” as his way to deal with lawful protesters, who ...

250 years of’ ‘promoting the general welfare’ gone astray

DEAR EDITOR: The Nov. 28 edition of The Vindicator asked its readers, “Should National Guard troops be removed from D.C.?” The majority responded ‘No.’ I found that somewhat surprising. When a member of the National Guard is deployed it impacts their civilian job and family life. I often wonder how they feel about being used to support authority figures who have never dawned a uniform and normalize behaviors once considered unimaginable in democratic governance. A simple internet inquiry reveals that many experts and local leaders argue that the National Guard is ill-suited ...
