Trump’s perception of economy is bogus

DEAR EDITOR: Now that Mr. Trump, our national Master of Misdirection, has launched an illegal and unconstitutional war in the Middle East, killing thousands of civilians, not soldiers, all noncombatants, he believes America will put its concerns about inflation and our economy aside. Not gonna happen! As a result of enduring Trump’s painful State of the Union address, more voters are coming to the realization that the man seems to be living in some alternate universe. Several national polls conducted after the address actually showed his popularity, even among Republicans, ...

USPS needs overhaul to save some money

DEAR EDITOR: The United States Postal Service (USPS) has one job: deliver the mail. You write a letter, address it, and put a stamp on it that pays for the delivery service. It’s a lot more complicated than that, obviously, but when you get right down to it, that’s the only objective; deliver the mail in a timely fashion. But the USPS has been operating in the red nearly every year this century, now to the tune of $9 billion a year. I used to be an avid stamp collector, and still get the “USA Philatelic” catalog of “stamps and stamp-inspired products.” With a whole lot of ...

Libraries offer services vital to communities

DEAR EDITOR: Public libraries succeed because they remain closely connected to the communities they serve. For over one hundred years, the public library has been the centerpiece of Niles, connecting people to one another and to the ideas of the past, present and future. At McKinley Memorial Library, our services are shaped by local needs — whether that means free Wi-Fi access, technology assistance, meeting space or lifelong learning opportunities. For many people in Niles, the library is the only free public space offering reliable internet, technology access and professional ...

Trump is cleaning up messes of others

ΩEAR EDITOR: First, Barack Obama gave Ukraine sheets and blankets, not ammo, to fight Russia and Russia took Crimea — it was war and still is. Joe Biden came into office and would not dictate terms with Russia or negotiate about Crimea, and Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, made a profit from the board of Burisma. Ukraine will never get back what Russia seized; it’s too late.So President Trump is trying to go for peace and divide the country as it is now. As for Greenland, there was a man with a medical emergency there and Trump offered to send a medical ship to help — they ...

Sound off!

Someplace Safe, a domestic violence shelter for women, had a wonderful fundraiser last weekend. It was marred by the grotesquely inappropriate presence of Devon Stanley, who was recently arrested for the alleged assault of his wife — a second-degree felony. Attending a domestic violence event to further your campaign for judge while simultaneously standing accused of domestic violence is an insult to everyone at that fundraiser and all of the people working toward justice. — Liberty The new Major League Baseball ABS challenge system for verifying balls and strikes is brilliant! ...

Remembering the work of Ted Frazzini

DEAR EDITOR: It was with great sadness that I read the obituary of Ted Frazzini. Ted was the driving force in initiating girls softball in Canfield. Back in 1978, Ted was successful in receiving permission from the Canfield Baseball Club at McCune Park in Canfield to start a 12-U girls softball program. From the first year with six teams, the program grew to hosting a 32-team invitational tournament at the end of each summer. His time, dedication and knowledge was instrumental in the growth of girls softball and very much appreciated. KEN BRAYER Boardman
