Judith Adamczyk Pierog 1946-2024

POLAND — Judith “Judy” Adamczyk Pierog passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Hospice House.

The eldest daughter of Theodore and Dorothy Strawhecker Adamczyk, she was born Sept. 3, 1946, in New Castle, Pa.

She attended several schools in the U.S. and overseas, being a “military brat.” (Her father was in the USAF.) She graduated from Itazuke High School in Japan in 1964, receiving the commander’s award for senior student excellence. She then attended St. Francis Hospital in New Castle, earning her RN in 1967. She practiced nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital, North Hills Passavant, Pittsburgh, and later for Dr. K.M. Lloyd.

Judy married B. John Pierog on Jan. 24, 1970, and had two children, John (Elaina) Pierog of Poland and Michele (Mark) Chambers of Atlanta, Georgia. She doted on her two grandchildren, Mia and Nate Chambers, flying often to visit them.

During her life, she was an avid reader, and enjoyed baking, needlework, casino trips, traveling and just making her house a home.

She was a member of Holy Family Church in Poland, assisting with bereavement lunches, prayer chain and Bible studies.

Besides her husband, children and grandchildren, she leaves behind her brothers, Michael (Jan) Adamczyk of Franklin, Pa., and Thomas Adamczyk of New Castle; sisters, Lorraine Calabrese of Ambridge, Pa., and Jeanne (Dale) Rohde of West Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister-in-law, Judy Adamczyk of New Castle; several nieces and nephews; her dear friend, Monica Kurjan, whom she thought of as grandchild; and her furry companions, her cats, Finn and Harry.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Ava “Susie” Adamczyk; and her brother, Theodore Adamczyk Jr.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.

Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Church.
