Lyndean Brick 1959-2024

She was the founder and CEO of Advis Inc., a leading healthcare consulting firm active in 42 states. She served as chair of the Illinois Hospital Licensing Board for over 20 years, only to resign in January 2024. Crains Chicago Business featured her as one of Chicago’s Notable Women in Healthcare.

Lyndean was a nationally recognized Medicare expert and master of healthcare regulation and compliance. She knew the system, often informing regulators as to the meaning of the law if it was to succeed in today’s modern hospitals.

She once interviewed at The White House for a position on MedPac, the regulatory body governing Medicare and Medicaid. Lyndean was always polite, professional and prolific. She was a pleasure to work both with and for; she was universally admired and respected for her consideration and professionalism.

“Lyndean was distinguished by her kindness. Kindness and compassion were the animating principles of her everyday life,” said her husband, Myron. “Family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances and strangers alike always benefitted from her abiding glow. Lyndean listened. Her counsel always hit the mark and helped. Sharing and caring was a lifestyle for Lyndean. Everyone recognized her as extraordinary.”

In addition to her innovative professional leadership, Lyndean was a tireless advocate for women’s rights and a volunteer at a local domestic violence shelter.

“An amazing woman, wife, mother and friend, Lyndean was special. Warm memories of her many kindnesses will last for generations,” Myron said.

Lyndean lectured extensively throughout her career on the relationships between the law, government regulations and the healthcare industry. The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) honored her with their annual Distinguished Speaker Award.

She also served as the lead regulatory counsel to a national base of clients; she was once the acting CEO of a 14-hospital system in Texas and Louisiana.

Born Lyndean Lenhoff in Petoskey, Michigan, on May 14th, 1959, she married Myron Brick on June 21, 1985, and never looked back. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and journalism from Albion College before earning her J.D. from The Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University in 1984.

She is survived by her husband, Myron Lee Brick; daughters, Sylvie Elizabeth Brick and Harte Elena Brick; her son, Myron “Mickey” Leo Brick; her sister, Alyssa Lenhoff Briggs; and mother, Nancy Lenhoff.

Lyndean was preceded in death by her father, Bentley Lenhoff.
