George E. McNab IV 1957-2024

POLAND — George Evan McNab IV passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House in Boardman, after a courageous battle with cancer.

George was born Jan. 12, 1957, and was a lifelong resident of Poland Village. He was the son of George Evan McNab III and Melva James McNab.

George was a 1975 graduate of Poland Seminary High School. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, George became an independent insurance agent. For 45 years, he specialized in commercial property and casualty insurance, serving as a trusted adviser to countless business owners in the region.

From mastering the sails on Lake Erie’s Camp Fitch as a young camper, to zipping the family dog across Lake Berlin on a jet ski, George loved the water. Boating, skiing and fishing weren’t just hobbies — they were his passion. Casting lines with lifelong friends for Lake Erie perch became a peaceful ritual. Now, calm waters hold his memory, a reflection of a life lived vibrantly.

George leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Margaret “Peggy” McDonald McNab, whom he married Sept. 20, 1980. The spirit of George lives on in the hearts of the family who survive him, including his sister, Carrie McNab McKenzie of Huntington, New York; his sons, George Elliot (Emily) McNab of Delaware and John Evan McNab of Poland; his daughter, Courtney (Adam) McNab-Garcia of Boardman; and George’s four grandchildren, Savannah and Hudson Garcia, and Elliot and Aubrie McNab. Beyond his immediate family, George is also mourned by a loving circle of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor George’s memory.

Material tributes may be made in George’s memory to Camp Fitch YMCA, campfitchymca.campin touch.com; or to Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Family and friends of George may leave condolences for the McNab family at www.beckerobits.com.
