Alyce S. Kotouch 1941-2024

She was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Youngstown, to Bernard and Susie Philips. Alyce’s departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Alyce was preceded in death by her loving parents, Bernard and Susie Philips. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Jim Kotouch; her two children, Gary Kotouch (Janice) and Susan Hawk (Dane); two estranged brothers; six grandchildren, Katie Holland, Lacie Greene, Jamie Kotouch, Jackson Harrell, Seth Hawk and Kyle Hawk; and three great-grandchildren, Barrett Peters, Gatlin Peters and Allie Greene.

Married to Jim Kotouch on May 25, 1963, Alyce embraced her role as a wife and mother with unwavering dedication and love. Her commitment to family was a cornerstone of her life and she treasured the moments spent together with her loved ones.

In 1964, Alyce entered military service as the wife of an Army officer. Throughout their journey, she exemplified the essence of a military spouse, whole-heartedly supporting her husband’s career and actively engaging with the various units they were assigned to. Her remarkable leadership qualities earned her the honor of serving as the president of the officer’s wives club on two separate occasions, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched.

Alyce’s professional life was marked by her determination and resilience. She held various positions, always aspiring to provide for her family. From managing a military thrift store to selling furniture while stationed in Germany, from overseeing inventory for a large department store to excelling as an office manager for H&R Block and a regional manager for Jackson Hewitt. She also owned and operated her own successful business, Alyce’s Bookkeeping & Tax Service, for over 10 years. Her dedication knew no bounds.

Not only was Alyce committed to her family and career, but she also actively contributed to the community. She spent over 35 years as a devoted member of Crosspoint Church in Niceville, Florida, where she whole-heartedly participated in countless church activities, including two of her favorites: supporting the Bargain Box and delivering meals with the Supper on Saturday team. Alyce’s unwavering faith and love for others shone through her involvement in the church, touching the lives of many. Alyce was a very dedicated and beloved sister of PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) for many years. She was also a founding member and officer of PEO Chapter IS, Destin, Florida, and later transferred to PEO Chapter M, Huntsville, Alabama.

In her free time, Alyce pursued her passions and interests with great enthusiasm. She was an avid sports enthusiast, always seeking to stay active and engage in physical activities. Hosting parties and serving others brought her immense joy, but her greatest love and priority was her family. The kindness, gentleness and selflessness she embodied endeared her to all who knew her, leaving an everlasting impact on their lives.

In honor of Alyce’s memory, contributions to the youth program at CrossPointe Church, Niceville, Florida, or Willowbrook Church, Huntsville, Alabama, are welcomed in lieu of flowers.

Alyce Sue Kotouch, a remarkable woman who lived a life of love, kindness and selflessness, will be deeply missed. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all those who knew her, and may her legacy continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those whose lives she forever touched.

Services will be held at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home in Niceville, Florida on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with interment to follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery.
