Rebecca Shevchenko 1953-2020

CANFIELD — Rebecca S. Shevchenko passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, while wintering in Florida.

She was born Nov. 30, 1953, the daughter of Betsy and Lloyd Sheridan.

Rebecca married Jim Shevchenko June 14, 1980, and was a resident of Canfield.

Rebecca was a math teacher at the Mahoning County Joint Vocational school for 30 years. She grew up in Poland and graduated from Poland High School. She graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in math. She received two master’s degrees and a doctorate of education from the same university.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers, where she was an organist, organized and worked on many committees for the church.

She volunteered at the Canfield Fair since 1984, working in the Western Reserve Village and the Arts and Craft Building where she ended as superintendent of the building. Rebecca also received a Master Gardner certification, was a certified notary, a member of the Ukrainian Egg Guild as a master at the art of Ukrainian egg making since 1986, a member of the Ohio Gourd Society and volunteered at Angels for Animals.

In addition to her husband, she leaves sisters, Karen, Deborah and Maureen; her sister, Libby, is deceased.
