YOUNGSTOWN — Two people suffered gunshot wounds in an early-morning incident Wednesday at the intersection East Florida and South avenues. Officers in a patrol car heard multiple gunshots at that location at 12:07 a.m. near South and Indianola avenues and advised police dispatch. A few moments later, the ShotSpotter notification system alerted the police department to shots fired at South and East Florida avenues. Youngstown man accused of assault

LIBERTY — A Youngstown man accused of threatening staff at a local mental hospital made an appearance in court on Wednesday. Aaron Jones, 32, pleaded not guilty to a pair of assault charges in front of Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffery Adler. According to a police report, officers were called to Generations Behavioral Health in reference to an assault, and dispatchers said the suspect was aggressive and threatening staff. The cost for steam heat for most of downtown Youngstown will greatly increase — 93% for a majority of them almost right away and then by 162% more by November — with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio’s approval of an emergency rate hike for SOBE Thermal Energy Systems LLC’s customers. When the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio meets today to consider a significant emergency rate hike for SOBE Thermal Energy Systems LLC’s downtown Youngstown customers, the increases will be even higher than proposed just last week.
