LIBERTY -- A Youngstown man is accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the hair and pulling her to the ground, as an argument escalated early Tuesday.

Elijah Ivy, 27, appeared in front of Girard Municipal Court Judge Jeffery Adler on a felony charge of domestic violence.

According to the police report, officers were called to a Holly Drive residence for a fight between the caller's brother and his girlfriend, and the caller and another resident said they were sleeping in their rooms when they heard loud banging and arguing in the living room, explaining that they were allowing Ivy and his girlfriend to stay at the apartment for the evening.

The report states officers found both Ivy and a woman on the living room couch, and Ivy was ordered outside to speak with another officer.

The reporting officer noted the woman was visibly distraught and had a fresh scrape mark on her right knee, the report states.

The woman told the officer that she had just returned from a trip, and Ivy was upset because it didn't seem like she missed him, leading to a verbal argument, the report states.

The report states the woman tried lying on an air mattress in the living room to defuse the situation, but Ivy allegedly continued to yell at her and, at one point, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her across the floor -- causing scrapes to her right knee and right middle finger.

The woman said Ivy also burned her with a cigarette, the report states, adding that she and Ivy are not married, but she is seven months pregnant with his child.

The woman said she was willing to fill out a domestic violence complaint form and a voluntary statement.

The report states Ivy, while en route to the Trumbull County jail, said he made a mistake by grabbing the woman to the ground by her hair. Ivy remains in jail on a $10,000 bond, according to court and booking records

He is set to appear back in court Aug. 26.
