Eight seek to fill the opening on McDonald council

McDONALD — Two former mayors, a one-time fire chief and several residents have applied to fill an opening on village council as Councilman Don Smith attended his final meeting Wednesday. Smith, a 27-year resident who served as chairman of the finance and capital improvement committee and levy committee, is moving next month with his family. Staff report YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Mayor Derrick McDowell issued an advisory Thursday afternoon implementing emergency measures to protect people from the smoke emanating from Canadian wildfires. McDonald residents seek meetings to develop plan for potential data centers

MCDONALD — Village residents are urging council and the administration to hold public meetings on how they would prepare for a potential data center proposal, including developing a plan with clear guidelines and restrictions before a data center expresses interest in locating there. Man indicted on attempted murder to be arraigned soon

YOUNGSTOWN — James Sunderman, 19, of Hayes Avenue in McDonald, will be arraigned 9 a.m. Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of kidnapping — all with firearm specifications — in a May incident on Youngstown’s South Side. Pair to be arraigned in aggravated burglary case

YOUNGSTOWN — Sharay Whitfield, 22, and Resha Graham, 21, are in the Mahoning County jail facing two counts each of aggravated burglary for a May 20 incident in which Graham is accused of pounding on an apartment door on Tyrell Avenue and then rushing into the apartment when the door opened, along with about eight more people. Woman shot in leg on Glenwood Avenue

Staff report YOUNGSTOWN — A woman reported feeling a gunshot to her upper leg while walking on Glenwood Avenue near Woodland Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman headed to her boyfriend’s house, where she called 911 at 5:34 p.m., according to a Youngstown police report. The woman said she did not remember hearing any gunshots, so she wondered if she had been struck by a BB pellet.
