Youngstown board OKs $1.19 million pact for sewer work for possible development

YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s board of control approved a $1,190,320 contract for sanitary sewer work that could lead to an economic development project. The board voted 3-0 Thursday to sign a contract with Marucci & Gaffney Excavating Co. of Youngstown, which submitted the lowest bid by the July 3 deadline. The board consists of Mayor Derrick McDowell, Finance Director Kyle Miasek and Law Director Adam Buente. Juvenile court judge touts success of diversion program

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Juvenile Court Judge Theresa Dellick said the Juvenile Summit on Wednesday was a chance to talk to law enforcement officers and others about how juvenile diversion programs have decreased crime and recidivism and reduced the number of children in detention. Hubbard council advances plans for dam removal

HUBBARD — Another step has been taken toward removing a dam in the community, partially as a result of a resolution approved by city council. Judge honors Valley police officers at Canfield CIty Council

CANFIELD — Mahoning County Area Court Judge Molly Johnson honored five local officers for their participation in helping with a recent school tour. “I recently had a group of 20 fourth graders from Salem visit my court and I want to thank officers for helping with those students,” Johnson said to city council members this week. She said the officers — four from the Canfield Police Department and one Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office deputy — put on displays and spent time with the students during the visit. NORTH JACKSON — Mahoning County Juvenile Court Magistrate Gina DeGenova promoted some of the court’s services at the township trustees meeting Tuesday. The programs are designed to assist at-risk youth and their families.
