YOUNGSTOWN — Demolition work at the former Rite Aid at 3525 Canfield Road in Cornersburg will begin in late summer or early fall to prepare the property for construction of a Sheetz convenience store.

The company, founded in Altoona, Pa., confirmed the schedule Monday.

A Mahoning County Building Department worker said the office received plans from Sheetz last week. An email to the Youngstown Zoning Department seeking confirmation it also obtained building specs had not been answered as of Tuesday afternoon.

McCandless Holdings LP of Gibsonia, Pa., purchased the parcel in the Cornersburg section of the county for $1.5 million on Jan. 22 from 2 Roebling Street Delaware Inc. Rite Aid of Ohio Inc. acquired the site for $1.5 million on June 1, 1998, and sold it approximately six years later.

McCandless Holdings received a construction site stormwater general permit in early February from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. The application provided a project start date of March 2, with completion slated for Dec. 31.

“The initial date was a very preliminary estimate and not reflective of our actual construction timeline,” a Sheetz representative said. “The project has not been delayed.”
