Pleasant Valley Church suspends services, activities

Staff report

LIBERTY — The parking lot outside Pleasant Valley Church off Pleasant Valley Road is usually packed with cars and other vehicles, but this past weekend, there were next to none.

A statement was posted on several doors at entrances to the church stating that all church services and church activities were being suspended until further notice. The same statement is also on the church’s website with access to other related church websites category no longer accessible.

The statement signed by Pastor Chip Trebilcock states “after prayerful consideration, I presented to the board that Pleasant Valley Church is currently broken and no longer fulfilling the Great Commission in a healthy or effective way. After discussion, the board agreed with this decision and accepted my recommendation to suspend all current church services, Bible studies, Sunday school classes, and ministry programs under the current Pleasant Valley Church model.”

Trebilcock said in the statement this was not a rushed decision and it came after much prayer, discernment and concern for the spiritual health of the church and the people attending.

“Because I do not know when or what a future relaunch may look like, I am encouraging every person currently attending Pleasant Valley to find a healthy, Bible-believing church where they can worship, grow and serve,” the statement reads.

Trebilcock said his original plan was to share this decision with the congregation in a final Sunday gathering.

“However, after the disruption that took place on Wednesday night, I believe another public service in the current environment would likely create more confusion, division and unnecessary pain. I believe the most Christ-honoring path forward is peace, and submission to the leadership decision that has been made,” Trebilcock said.

The statement notes that effective immediately, there will be no further church services, Bible studies, Sunday school classes or ministry programs at Pleasant Valley Church under the current model.

“If individuals desire to continue gathering, we ask that those meetings take place off church property,” the statement reads.

The statement also says that Victory Christian School, which is located in the eastern section of the church complex, will continue to operate without interruption.

Trebilcock said the “Blue Building” sports complex also remains a priority and will be completed and used by the public in the future.

Trebilcock said he has no further details to share at the time.

“Please pray for wisdom, biblical clarity, healing and direction as the board and myself seek the Lord for what he may desire to do in the future through what has always belonged to Him — His church,” Trebilcock said.
