Man indicted on felonious assault, attempted rape
YOUNGSTOWN — Allen M. Smith, 21, of Parkman Road in Warren, was indicted last week on charges of felonious assault, attempted rape, gross sexual imposition and strangulation in a Feb. 13 incident in which he is accused of strangling a woman until she almost passed out after giving her a ride in his car and then asking her for sexual favors in return.
The woman reported the incident Feb. 13. Officers responding to a home on Youngstown’s South Side spoke with the alleged victim, who had visible injuries to her face.
She said earlier that evening, she called Smith, who she had known on Facebook, and asked if he would give her a ride to work. When he arrived at her home, she got in the car, and Smith asked her for sexual favors as payment for the ride, saying, “Nothing is for free.” She said no and they started to fight, with Smith taking the woman’s phone and trying to take her pants off, the report states.
Smith then started to strangle the woman “to the point that she couldn’t breathe and almost lost consciousness,” the report states. The fight continued, but the woman was able to get out of the car. Smith failed in an attempt to run her over with the car, the woman said.
Smith got out of the car, yelled at her and punched her in the face, leaving her on the ground, the woman told police. Smith drove off and the woman was able to “get inside and call for help,” the report states.
The woman said her landlord has cameras that captured the assault. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In March, the U.S. Marshal’s Service arrested Smith on warrants through Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of felonious assault and strangulation.
