Liberty board hears more updates on road projects
LIBERTY — Township officials learned the status of a pair of community improvements that are moving forward as the weather heats up.
At Monday’s meeting, trustees heard from Road Superintendent Wayne Hickman, who said the Center Park project, for which the township received a $450,000 American Rescue Plan grant and started work Feb. 9, was “about three weeks away” from completion.
The project aims to improve the sports and recreation area, the walking path and pavilions, according to trustee Arnie Clebone at a January regular meeting.
“We’ve got all 86 structures in the ground, got all the pipe in the ground, and now it’s just detailing, fine grading, swales,” Hickman said. “As we work our way out of the park — seeds, straw, turf-reinforced matting — just details, it’s all details.”
Hickman said some items need fixing, such as fencing, but there are line items in the project to account for such issues.
Hickman said he spoke with the project foreman Monday and last week, who “feels confident” that he can get out of the area in about two to three weeks, with Hickman adding he was leaning towards the latter part of three weeks because a project’s punch list can get lengthy.
Hickman said the Belmont Avenue sidewalk project that kicked off March 30 has been moving along, too, noting the amount of activity on state Route 304.
“Looks good, they busted that out real quick, and now they’re turning the corner, now they’re on state Route 193,” Hickman said. “They’re out there every day, and they’re ahead of schedule.”
Hickman said after the meeting that the project was approximately halfway complete. He said he was glad to see they were ahead of schedule because of the upcoming township activity, adding that state Route 193 will receive an inch of asphalt on top of the project.
“Getting paved, from Gypsy Lane, County Line, to state Route 304,” Hickman said. “It’s just a one-inch overlay of a Type-B rubberized mix, so that’s a straight-line paving.”
“We’re going to have construction going consistently all year long, but we’re moving forward,” he added.
Hickman said he was unsure if any night paving will be conducted, explaining that he hadn’t heard anything or seen the plans, but he knows the asphalt’s composition because of a conversation with Shelly & Sands Inc, the paving company.
