Austintown woman killed on Alliance Sebring Road

SMITH TOWNSHIP — An Austintown woman was killed in a Wednesday night crash on Alliance Sebring Road in Smith Township.

Catherine L. Ruggly, 48, of Austintown, was walking east near Oyster Road just before 9 p.m. when an unknown sport utility vehicle also traveling east struck her and she landed in a watery ditch. The SUV continued east toward Sebring.

Ruggly was taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton, where she was pronounced dead, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Canfield Post of the Highway Patrol at 330-533-6866.

The SUV has possible damage to the front right of the vehicle, the Highway Patrol stated. The crash remains under investigation.

Agencies assisting on scene were Sebring Police Department, Smith Township Police Department and Smith Township Fire and EMS.
