Lowellville mother in gun case stays free on bond, pleads not guilty
LOWELLVILLE — A woman charged with allowing her child to bring a gun to school will remain free on bond after her arraignment Friday.
Jessica Wolfe, 33, of Lowellville, entered a not-guilty plea on one count of child endangering before Mahoning County Juvenile Court Magistrate Karen Romano Melone.
Wolfe’s case is being heard in Juvenile Court because, in addressing the charges related to her child, the court found that she “did create a substantial risk to the health or safety” of the child.
Juvenile Court Prosecutor Anissa Modarelli said Wolfe was released on her own recognizance with a $5,000 bond, which she will forfeit if she fails to appear for subsequent hearings.
Modarelli said she expects a pretrial hearing to occur within the next 30 days but a definite date has not yet been set because Wolfe’s case is being moved to Judge Theresa Dellick’s docket but Dellick’s bailiff was not in on Friday.
Lowellville police charged Wolfe after her 8-year-old son was found with a gun in his backpack at school on Oct. 31. Police say Wolfe failed to properly secure the gun, which belongs to her.
According to Vindicator articles published around the time of the event, Wolfe also was charged with bringing a gun onto school property following the May 2022 suicide of a Lowellville student in the high school cafeteria. As a Marine Corps veteran, Wolfe was allowed to complete an “Honor Court” counseling program, which led to the dismissal of those charges and expungement of the charges from her record.
