WHAT: Trumbull Career and Technical Center board meetings Oct. 12 and Nov. 9
The board:
• Heard from Director Paula Baco that eighth-grade tours have taken place with students from 17 schools seeing different programs and pathways. Baco said career days for sophomores to visit will be Nov. 29 and 30 and a public open house set for 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7.
• Accepted the retirement of Deborah Grundy, a paraprofessional for 25 years, effective Aug. 1, 2024, and Sharon White, culinary arts / hospitality instructor, with 22 years, effective June 1.
• Approved Mark Molnar as industrial instructor for adult education at $25 per hour; Koula Glaros-Ross as adult education coordinator at $30 an hour; Kimberly Higinbotham, basic computers instructor for adult education at at $26 per hour; and Carol Sturgeon as ASPIRE director at $21 per hour.
• Approved the animal management veterinary service field trip Monday and Tuesday to the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
• Accepted donations of hardscape pond liner and engine hoist from Michael Caldwell for landscape design, auto service and technology programs, and a black welding helmet from Kohn McCartney for welding and cutting program.
• Were informed the new restaurant is now having the public return for lunches for the first time since 2019.
• Were informed the Vision to Learn program checked students’ vision and hearing and provided glasses to 146 students. Board member Brooke Vondrasek of Bristol, who is a school nurse, said the program checks for closeup and distance vision.
• Were informed on new state policies where a school van is not allowed to transport more than nine students at a time, and a school board member or school employee can’t be involved in handling money for a school booster group.
• Set monthly board meetings for 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month The organizational meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11.
