Jackson Township

WHAT: Trustees meeting June 13

PRESENT: Tom Frost, Alan Hemphill and John Jakubec

Trustees:

• Approved revenue of $54,021 for May and expenditures of $87,066;

• Received an email from Sheetz about a liquor license transfer. It is transferring the license from another part of the state because of a lack of available ones. The township received $2,630 from liquor permit fees last year;

• Approved the revision of the township’s credit card policy, adding police Chief Peter Rozzi III and fire Chief Mike Mortimer and removing former police Chief Greg Taillon;

• Set a reminder that a mandatory harassment class will be at 7 p.m. June 26 for township employees;

• Approved the following purchase orders: a power light system totaling $27,687 and a power cot totaling $26,044 through Stryker Medical covered by Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation grants; a lease bond payment to Bank of New York Mellon totaing $7,983; outer carrier vests through Red Diamond Uniform & Police totaling $21,225 through the Body Armor Grant; and turnout gear through MidWest Rescue Products totaling $14,460 through compensation for East Palestine. While that money has not been received yet, Mortimer said he expects to see it in the coming months;

• Approved Mortimer’s request to have Lewis Construction complete the paint work it already has begun for $5,832. According to Mortimer, the insurance company has covered a bulk of the painting, but not the front portion of the fire station with stucco on it. Having it complete the paint work would ensure the station does not look “weird”;

• Approved Mortimer’s request to replace the fire station’s generator, which was the cause of the April 1 fire. The new generator, an exterior Generac generator, will cost $17,654 and the insurance company will not cover the cost for it. Mortimer said the new generator will give them more power, and they will be able to run the station off of it, as opposed to half of the lights and doors;

• Approved Mortimer’s request to purchase a new fire alarm system through WJ Alarm totaling $6,633 to set up and $32.50 per month for monitoring;

• Heard from Mortimer that the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Safety Grant for a power cot with a power load feature has been fulfilled, and that Squad 600 is now in service with the equipment. The total cost of the project was $55,787.07 with the grant covering $40,000 of it for a total of $15,787.07 covered by the township;

• Heard from Mortimer that Lt. Michael Friend, Capt. Anthony Jones, and Battalion Chief Jace Melick all completed Fire Officer I and II training, probationary firefighter Bryce Fisher has completed his Firefighter I training and firefighters Greg Neff and Rick Anstine have completed their Firefighter II training. Rick Anstine completed his one-year probationary period and has been elevated to the rank of firefighter;

• Promoted Melick to battalion chief of EMS. He was sworn in at the meeting;

• Approved Mortimer’s request to allow professional fireworks displays within the township as long as the entity performing the display submits paperwork required by Ohio to the township’s fire department no later than 60 days prior to the display’s date, as well as a fee of $500 due to the fire department;

• Approved Rozzi’s request to authorize the auction of a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix on govdeals.com for 14 days;

• Promoted Detective David Shively to the rank of sergeant. Shively will receive a $1.50 increase in hourly pay and will serve a one-year probationary period. Shively will still serve as the department’s detective, as the role is an assignment, not a rank. He was sworn in at the meeting.
