New indictment for Cleveland man
Already charged with raping and kidnapping corrections officer
YOUNGSTOWN — Rondell L. Harris, 34, of East Cleveland, accused of raping a Mahoning County jail corrections officer in May 2022, was indicted Thursday on several more charges related to another lockup allegation.
His new charges are harassment with a bodily substance, possessing criminal tools and intimidation — all felonies.
The first two charges are from June 4, when Harris is accused of throwing a bottle of his urine on a corrections officer at the Ohio State Penitentiary on Coitsville-Hubbard Road, when he was incarcerated there on a one-year sentence out of Portage County Common Pleas Court for carrying a concealed weapon.
His third charge is a third-degree felony of intimidation alleged to have happened the next day, June 5, when he allegedly gave corrections officers a note containing a threat.
Harris also pleaded guilty in December 2022 in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to disrupting public services for another incident that took place at the Ohio State Penitentiary. It’s unclear where and when that incident took place. Judge Anthony D’Apolito sentenced Harris to 19 months in prison for that offense.
In the rape case, Harris is accused of raping a female deputy who works as a corrections officer at the county jail while Harris was being detained there May 5, 2022.
Harris was indicted on rape, two counts of kidnapping, one count of felonious assault and one count of assault. Some of the charges also carry specifications that allege that Harris is a “sexually violent predator.” Such specifications add more prison time if convicted.
The rape case is pending in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
He could face several decades in prison if he is convicted of the cumulative charges.
