Community News: Church festival set in Struthers starting Wednesday

SUMMER FESTIVAL: The St. Nicholas Church festival will take place 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and 4 to 11 pm. Saturday on the church grounds, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. The festival includes amusement rides, musical entertainment, baked goods and food. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for senior citizens and free for children 12 and under.

ASMV SUMMER FUN: The Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley will host its “Hello Summer” Family Fun Night 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stacey Pavilion in Austintown Township Park. There will be games, snacks, popsicles and use of the indoor pavilion. Families also can enjoy the splash pad and playground.

FOAM PARTY: The Girard Free Library will host the children’s summer reading program kickoff party at 11 a.m. Wednesday with a foam mountain for children to play in on the library lawn. The summer reading program is “Unearth a Story.” Children are asked to bring towels and can wear swimwear. Registration is required at 330-545-2508.

MAYAN ARCHAEOLOGY: The Girard Free Library will host a local archaeology program at 6 p.m.Wednesday. The program will cover the local archaeology record with Dr. Matt O’Mansky, a Mayan archaeologist at Youngstown State University, and he also will discuss past community digs. Patrons who attend are welcome and encouraged to volunteer for the new upcoming community project this summer and get hands on with local history. Those planning to attend are asked to register at 330-545-2508.

ALUMNI TO MEET: The McDonald High School Alumni Association annual dinner meeting is 6 p.m. June 27 at Ciminero’s Banquet Center in Niles. Class reunions are welcome. Alumni for 1966 and 1976 graduation years are encouraging classmates to celebrate 50 and 60 years. LUAU AT CENTER: The Girard Multi-Generational Center on Trumbull Avenue will host a luau-themed luncheon noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Those attending can wear Hawaiian attire and bring a dish to share.
