13 veterans to be honored at Patriot Day event

AUSTINTOWN — The 16th annual Patriot Day at Quaker Steak and Lube in Austintown will honor 13 veterans in a ceremony starting at 5:55 p.m. Thursday at the restaurant at 5800 Patriot Blvd.

The event will feature a parachute jump by Jim Drummond, the presentation of colors by Austintown Fitch High School ROTC and a performance by the Austintown Fitch Choir.

Veterans being honored are:

l William Blasciak, corporal, Army, Korean War 11th Airborne;

l John C. Turner, staff sergeant, Army, Vietnam and Iraq;

l Michael William Nuzzo, sergeant, combat medic Army, Vietnam, recipient of two Bronze Stars;

l Paul Shultz, sergeant, Marine Corps, Vietnam, combat engineer;

l Butch Harry, Navy corpsman, Vietnam, Purple Heart recipient;

l Jared Pain, sergeant, Marine Corps, Iraq / Afghanistan. Navy / Marine Achievement Medal recipient;

l Michael Haught, chief petty officer, Navy, Vietnam/Persian Gulf;

l James D. Kaster, Army, Vietnam, 1st Infantry Division;

l Michael Gonzales, master sergeant, Air Force, Iraq;

l Dr. Dana Robinson, street-lieutenant, Navy, Gulf and Desert Storm;

l Kevin Riley, colonel, Air Force 910th Airlift wing, head instructor, Air Force ROTC at Fitch H.S.;

l Tom Marhulik, senior master sergeant, Air Force Bosnia and Iraq / Afghanistan, instructor Fitch Air Force ROTC;

l Dennis Angelo Ferraro, specialist 4, Army, Vietnam, 101st Airborne, helicopter crew chief killed in helicopter crash August 1971 in Germany along with 36 others, Air Medal recipient.

Patriot Day will conclude with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps by Marc Pupino from Austintown Local Schools.

Patriot Day officially is observed in the United States on Sept. 11 each year in memory of the people killed in the 9/11 attacks on this nation in 2001.
