Canfield city manager calls it quits

Wade Calhoun

CANFIELD — Wade Calhoun, on board with Canfield since 2018, is no longer the city manager.

Calhoun gave notice and resigned the position late Friday, officials said.

Acting city manager and Police Chief Chuck Colucci said an investigation is continuing into a matter that was discussed in executive session on Aug. 24 during a regular city meeting. Council had gone into executive session regarding the discipline, promotion and / or dismissal of a public employee.

The following morning, Calhoun and one unnamed city employee were placed on administrative leave.

Colucci said the matter is under investigation and city officials will continue to “follow a process that ensures all parties due process.”

No details have been issued about the matter.

Even though Calhoun has stepped down, the investigation is continuing, according to Colucci.

“We are continuing with the investigation using a third party firm that deals in human resource [matters],” Colucci said. “We can’t comment and will continue to protect the integrity of the case.”

He said there will be a search conducted for a new city manager, but the city is not yet accepting resumes.

“We are actively discussing what that search should look like,” Colucci said.

According to the city’s website, Calhoun received a bachelor of arts degree in political science and a minor in business from Youngstown State University in 2005, and later earned his master of public administration degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. He joined Canfield in January 2018, after working at various positions for municipalities in Texas.

Hebegan his municipal career working for Fort Worth, Texas, in the library system; he earned his master’s degree in 2011 while working for the Fort Worth Water Department, along with a graduate certificate in Public Budgeting and Financial Management.

He then spent three years working for the city of Hudson Oaks, Texas. After spending three years in the private sector working in finance for a global medical company, Calhoun returned to public service as the city administrator of Dalworthington Gardens, Texas, before coming to Canfield.
