East Liverpool man gets 4-6 years on drug offense
YOUNGSTOWN — Isaiah M. Matthews, 28, of East Liverpool, was sentenced Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to four to six years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree felony cocaine possession.
Matthews was arrested Jan. 26, 2021, after an early-morning traffic stop on the South Side.
Youngstown police said they observed Matthews’ vehicle traveling on South Avenue at high speed. The vehicle disregarded a stop sign at Lucius Avenue, according to a police report.
Officers made a traffic stop and discovered that Matthews was driving despite two license suspensions. Officers called for a tow truck.
They also began to inventory the vehicle before it was towed and found a Crown Royal bag containing white powder in the center console. Another bag held about $8,500 in cash, the report states.
Police detained Matthews and also found a live pit bull in the trunk. It was given to Matthews’ girlfriend. He received the cocaine charge and was cited for driving under suspension and a stop sign violation.
