2 arrested after 2-county chase

NEWTON FALLS — Two people are in custody facing charges in Newton Falls Municipal Court after a lengthy vehicle chase Thursday sent authorities across several jurisdictions in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

A Trumbull County sheriff’s report states the chase started when a deputy spotted a gray Jeep Liberty going about 60 mph on state Route 5 in Braceville shortly after 2 a.m. Dispatchers informed the deputy the vehicle’s owner was wanted on multiple warrants.

The report states the chase then went through parts of Leavittsburg, Newton Township and into Jackson Township of Mahoning County before returning to Lordstown in Trumbull County, with vehicles going at speeds exceeding 70 mph. A state trooper unsuccessfully tried to stop the Jeep with road spikes as it turned onto state Route 45.

The vehicle entered the west side streets of Warren, the report states, frequently applying brakes in hopes of striking a cruiser in pursuit. The vehicle stopped in the middle of South Leavitt Road and South Street SW, where officers with weapons drawn ordered the two people out of the vehicle, the report states.

The woman passenger was identified as Hope M. Ramsey, 23, of Blossom Lane SW, Warren, who was wanted on warrants out of Warren and Newton Falls municipal courts. The driver, identified as Dylan A. Bever, 29, of East River Road, Newton Falls, told the officers the vehicle was not his and he got it from a “dude named Scoob.”

A search of the vehicle netted a pipe found under the front passenger seat and a clear crystal-like substance on the front passenger floorboard. Authorities will test the substance for drug content and charges may be filed accordingly, the report states.

Meanwhile, Bever was being held in Trumbull County jail on a failure to comply charge and a warrant from Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. The report states Bever told authorities he didn’t appear for a recent pretrial hearing before Judge Ronald J. Rice.

An arraignment on the failure to comply charge is pending in Newton Falls court.
