Man killed, three injured in West Side shootings

YOUNGSTOWN –Joseph Addison, 42, was killed and three other people were injured after a Monday morning report of gunfire in an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Tyrell Avenue.

One of the victims of the West Side violence is a female, 26.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office identified Addison late Monday.

Police received multiple calls for gunfire at 4:30 a.m. in the Valley View apartments. Additional calls were about people having been shot, police stated.

When officers arrived, they immediately found two men who had been shot. Addison and a man, 21, were taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Addison died soon afterward.

Police then canvassed the area for additional victims and evidence and found a man, 34, and a woman, 26, also had been shot. They also were taken to the hospital.

All three surviving victims are in stable condition, police said.

According to one 911 call, a man in his 40s was inside of an apartment with a gunshot wound to the leg but was talking to the people in the apartment. He had been shot “outside,” one of the people in the apartment said. They gave a different name for him than Addison.

Another caller said he or she heard about 20 gunshots at the apartment complex. Another caller thought the gunfire was coming from Oregon Avenue, which is nearby.

No arrests have been made, police said.

Youngstown police were continuing to investigate the shootings Monday, and they ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or the Youngstown Police Department at 330-746-8YPD.

Tips may be left anonymously. Tips leading to an arrest and/or prosecution are eligible for a monetary reward, the police stated.

ANOTHER SHOOTING VICTIM DIES

Meanwhile, reports out of the police department and coroner’s office said that Calvin Moore, 27, who was shot outside of the Vibe nightclub on the South Side early Dec. 11, died Christmas Day.

Moore was found shot at 2 a.m. in a car in the parking lot of the Vibe nightclub on Midlothian Boulevard and was taken in a personal vehicle to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Capt. Jason Simon of the detective division of the Youngstown Police Department said just after the shooting that a party of about 300 people was inside the nightclub, but there were “no problems in the bar,” and knew of no connection between the party and the shooting.

Additional information was not available Monday.

Adding two more homicides to the previous total of 28 will give Youngstown 30 homicides for the year — the most since 2007 when Youngstown had 39 homicides.
