City police investigate argument, gunfire on West Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A resident of the 2900 block of Oregon Avenue on the West Side reported that a man fired a gun into the air during an argument.

A woman told police the neighbor’s boyfriend asked her to move her car at 4:49 p.m. Saturday from in front of his girlfriend’s house.

The woman considered moving the car but decided that she did not have to because of it being parked on a public roadway and not blocking the driveway.

The boyfriend was angry with that and got into a white sport utility vehicle, backed out of the driveway and drove onto the victim’s lawn and argued with the woman and about moving her vehicle, the victim said.

During the argument, another neighbor came out of the house and fired a gun into the air and then walked around waving the gun in the air and yelling, the victim said.

Another neighbor said he tried to de-escalate the situation. He said the man in the SUV backed out of the driveway and left.

Police spoke with the woman who lives at the address where the man was complaining about the victim’s car. Police advised her that the victim is allowed to park on the street because it is a public street and was not parking in front of her driveway.

Police collected a spent bullet shell casing. No charges were filed.
