COVID-19 cases in Ohio below 2K for 4 straight days

While the number of new COVID-19 cases is increasing, Ohio has gone four straight days with fewer than 2,000 new cases reported for the first time in nearly a month.

The number of cases has increased the past couple of days. It was 1,076 Sunday, 1,632 Monday and 1,799 Tuesday. But including Saturday with 1,987 cases reported, it’s the first time since March 22 to 25 that the state has gone four straight days with new cases fewer than 2,000.

The 1,799 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday was down from the daily average of 1,954 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The state had a total of 1,056,606 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 998,724 presumed recovered and 19,033 deaths.

The ODH provides death information only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The 42 new deaths since Friday include one each in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Mahoning County had 20,991 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 19,673 presumed recovered and 584 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 15,653 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 14,612 presumed recovered and 461 deaths.

Columbiana County had 8,577 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 8,136 presumed recovered and 226 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 4,418,325 people, 37.8 percent of the state’s population, who had at least started the vaccination process as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 28,178 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 38.15 percent of the population (87,250 people) had received at least one dose with 36.33 percent of the population in Trumbull County (71,920 people) and 30.91 percent in Columbiana County (31,491 people) as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the ODH.

There were 3,153,146 people, 26.98 percent of the state’s population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 58,111 in the previous 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 28.13 percent of the population (64,452 people) had completed the process while 25.56 percent of the population in Trumbull (50,612 people) and 24 percent of the population in Columbiana (24,456 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The Trumbull County Combined Health District is having a Moderna vaccination clinic at the Monument of Faith Church of God in Christ’s community center, 2165 Highland Ave. SW in Warren, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. The clinic will be happening at the same time as the church’s food giveaway.

No appointment is needed, and 500 vaccinations are available.

The Mahoning Valley’s mass vaccination clinic at the former Dillard’s department store at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman has openings for Friday. The clinic is using Moderna vaccines with the follow-up dose scheduled for May 21.
