Warren notches first murder of year

WARREN — A woman came home to find her home ransacked and the body of a homicide victim upstairs, according to police and Trumbull County 911 Center records.

The 19-year-old woman called 911 at 11:30 a.m. from 243 Forest St. NW to report the body of the man and break-in.

Police have not yet released the man’s identity or a cause of death. The woman who called 911 did not identify the person.

Warren police Sgt. John Wilson said detectives are investigating the death as a homicide and that no one has been charged or taken into custody.

Warren Safety Service Director Eddie Colbert said the murder appears to be the first homicide in the city this year. Last year, there were 16 murders in the city and the first was on New Year’s Day. That homicide remains unsolved.

The woman who called 911 told the dispatcher she came home to grab some clothing for work to find the front door open and a bike outside, according to the recording.

“I don’t know what is going on. I went upstairs, I see blood and stuff … The house is trashed,” she said. “It looks like there’s a body upstairs.”

When asked if the person was alive, the woman said she didn’t want to touch him or go near him. She told the dispatcher there was blood on the carpet.

The woman waited in her vehicle until police arrived, according to the 911 call.

Warren 2nd Ward Councilman Al Novak said the house is across the street from the empty lot where the McKinley School used to stand. It is typically a quiet neighborhood, he said.
