WHAT: City council meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Bill Williams, Bonnie Viele, Robin Zambrini, Michael Toda, Jerome Crowe, Michael Kerr, Ryan Hallapy and Mayor Ben Kyle

ABSENT: Michael Mogg

Council:

• Named former mayor John Darko to fill the unexpired one-year term of Marianne Hallapy on the Eagle Joint Fire District Board. Hallapy, who is a city employee, can no longer serve on the board;

• Appointed Al Sauline Jr. as the city’s citizen representative for three-year term on the Eagle Joint Fire District board to replace Mike Pieton. Kyle said the city and township alternate on who they have serving on the fire board;

• Approved Richard Kennedy as a full-time police officer to fill the opening of D.J. Sheldon, who left for another position. Kennedy was previously an auxiliary officer;

• Approved a three-year agreement with Circle K in Hubbard for purchase of fuel for the city;

• Reported the Hubbard school board approved John Clemente to a five-year term on the parks and recreation board;

• Heard from Ryan Hallapy that in 2020, the police department budget allowed for the purchase of two new pistols, three Tasers and three new portable radios. He said enough ammunition was purchased to allow for firearms training in 2021.The effort was to keep older equipment updated or replaced and taken out of service;

• Heard from Treasurer Marsha Ruha, who reported on the charge card process for paying taxes, utilities and mayor’s court processed 726 transactions and generated $118,123;

• Heard from Viele all park buildings have been winterized and the drive-in entrance gates locked. There is still public access through the walk-in gates. She said improvements made to the parks in 2020 included Mattinat Park parking lot paved, and the playground unit and the pavilion exterior were improved. More improvements are planned for 2021;

• Appointed Ryan Hallapy to the Hubbard Union Cemetery board.
