Ohio reported 2,309 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, including 54 locally, but no new deaths were reported locally or statewide.

The Ohio Department of Health stated the cases Sunday follows a record-high number of cases reported Saturday — 2,858 — the largest single-day increase of COVID-19 in the state since the start of the pandemic in March.

Sunday’s new cases bring the statewide total to 198,115, and leaves Ohio on track to surpass 200,000 cases today if the daily case total again tops 2,000. No new deaths were reported Sunday, bringing the statewide fatality total to 5,206.

There were 89 new hospitalizations Sunday, which is below the 21-day average of 111 hospitalizations, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, there have been 3,810 cases, 563 hospitalizations and 287 deaths. In Trumbull County, there are 2,362 cases, 382 hospitalizations and 134 deaths. In Columbiana County, there are 2,162 cases, 236 hospitalizations and 88 deaths.

October is the month with the most reported COVID-19 cases in Ohio since the pandemic began. As of Saturday, the state had 41,819 reported COVID-19 cases for October with daily record-breaking numbers four days in a row.

The previous highest month for cases was July with 39,370 cases.

There were 15,828 cases in April; 17,486 in May; 16,276 in June; 31,998 in August; and 30,830 in September.

This past week alone there were 15,581 reported COVID-19 cases in Ohio.

The new record of 2,858 was reported Saturday. Before that, there were 2,518 cases Friday, 2,425 Thursday and 2,366 Wednesday, which were all record highs at the time.
