YOUNGSTOWN — A city woman, 23, was in stable condition after being shot Tuesday afternoon while driving her car on Hylda Avenue on the South Side.

The victim called police at 5:08 p.m. to alert them that she was on her way to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after having been shot. An officer spotted her near the hospital and escorted her the rest of the way. Hospital staff took the woman, who was driving, into the hospital for treatment.

Police spoke with two female passengers. One said a female approached their car on foot and fired several times into it. The witness said she thought the shooting was related to a dispute between the women over a man.

The vehicle did not appear to have been hit by any gunshots, only through the window.
