YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners on Thursday awarded a $1,633,727 contract to Boak & Sons Inc. of Youngstown for replacement of the roofs at the Mahoning County jail.

Commissioners also awarded an $846,640 contract of to TEMA Roofing Services of Liberty to replace the roof at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.

James Fortunato, county purchasing director, said work on both roofs will begin in the coming weeks. The work will continue until the winter weather forces construction to be suspended until spring.

The projects are expected to be completed next summer.

The current roof at the county jail is the original roof from 1996, Fortunato said. The one on the Juvenile Justice Center was completed in 1993.
