Historical museum opens in Salem for its 48th season

SALEM — The Salem Historical Society Museum will open for the season Sunday and will be open 1 to 4 p.m. each Sunday through Oct. 25, and by appointment.

This year’s featured exhibit, “Suffrage Centennial,” is celebrating the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

The exhibit covers activities and people associated with the battle to gain the right to vote for women in the United States. Artifacts highlight Ohioans who contributed to the cause and historic events held in the Buckeye State, especially Salem. Curated women’s clothing from 1850 to 1920 is featured.

Admission for adults 18 and older is $6. Children ages 5 to 17 are $3. Members and children under 3 are admitted free.

The gift shop, located at 239 S. Lundy Ave., also will be open with featured publications of the women’s rights efforts. Patrons must wear masks. Cotton gloves will be provided and must be worn while on the museum tour. The entrance and parking for museum tours is at 208 S. Broadway Ave.
