‘Large amount of gunfire’ rocks South Side neighborhood during party

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department responded to the area of Potomac Avenue and Erie Street on the South Side at 9:16 p.m. Saturday for a “large amount of gunfire.”

When officers arrived, they found that a big family gathering was taking place at 231 Potomac Avenue. A few individuals said that vehicles “circled back after shooting and shot again.” No one was injured.

Officers discovered six motor vehicles that had been hit by the gunfire. Everyone was inside the house at the time the shots were fired, police were told, according to a Youngstown police report.

Officers observed spent bullet shell casings on the side porch of the home and other shell casings from 231 Potomac Avenue to Erie Street. The report did not provide a number of gunshots that were fired.

The report states that the owner of the home advised that no windows were damaged by the gunfire. The police department crime lab investigated the scene, the report states.
