Possible electrical fire closes bar scheduled to open Friday
YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown Fire Department investigator said damage caused by a fire Tuesday morning at the SNK Double Deuce Saloon is “repairable,” though that did not seem to console the building’s owner.
“It’s bad,” owner Kenneth Bullen said when asked Tuesday how much damage the fire caused. “We were opening this Friday, and this happened,” the longtime owner said.
A fire captain was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with an injury. Fire Chief Barry Finley said he did not know what type of injury or whether it was serious.
Bullen was inside doing some work to get the bar ready so the patio could reopen Friday and the rest of the facility could reopen on May 21. He had left and was gone a short time when someone called and told him the bar was on fire.
Bullen said the bar had been open every day for 21 years until the coronavirus and social distancing requirements closed it in March.
“We did so many benefits for people who had cancer, and now we’re screwed,” Bullen said.
Kurt Wright, investigator with the Youngstown Fire Department, said an electrical problem apparently caused the fire. He said the fire caused a lot of smoke damage, but the building is not a total loss.
Inside the bar area, flames burned a television and ceiling tiles.
