Two males with guns attempt to enter Summit Academy

YOUNGSTOWN — Summit Academy, 2800 Shady Run Road, went on lockdown and then closed early Friday after two former students with guns tried to enter the school at 10:54 a.m.

A report states the principal gave officers the names of the two students, ages 18 of Poland and 20 of Youngstown, who arrived at the front doors of the school. Then they went to the side door and tried to get inside by forcefully pulling on the door, the city police report states.

Another student approached the door and “advised them to leave,” the report states. The student then noticed the two former students were armed. The gun one of the two males had an “extended magazine ” of ammunition.

The two had left by the time police arrived.

Officers were called back to the school at 12:36 p.m. and were advised the two men were now “circling the school” in a blue Pontiac. That is when the school advised it was closing early “due to safety concerns.”
