Bullet lands between legs of West Side man in shooting at home

YOUNGSTOWN — A person reported that when gunfire struck the house he was in Tuesday night on North Brockway Avenue, it went through the couch between the person’s legs.

The house was struck by four bullets. No one in the house was injured in the 10:50 p.m. incident.

When Youngstown police responded to North Brockway Avenue on the West Side Tuesday night for gunfire, they spoke with a person who said he was sitting on the couch, and a bullet “went through the bottom of the couch and through his legs.”

Another person was upstairs in the house putting a child to bed.

Multiple people called 911 over the gunfire, including one person who said a dark blue sedan took off from the area toward Oakwood Avenue after the gunfire was heard.

Officers were advised that two men were seen behind another home on North Brockway at the time of the gunfire. One had a rifle and took off on foot toward North Hartford Avenue, they reported.

Officers checked the rear yards on North Hartford Avenue without finding anyone, but 28 spent bullet shell casings were found in the rear yard where the men were spotted, the report states. The area where the casings were found has a direct line of sight to the house that was hit by the gunfire.

One of the people in the house that was struck told police that just before the gunfire, a security camera captured a silver SUV in front of the home.

However, the video cut out because the home’s internet was out after the cable line was hit by a bullet.
