City man gets prison on drug charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Shaquille M. McElroy Sr., 25, of Dryden Avenue, was sentenced to one year in prison Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on drug charges related to a Youngstown robbery.

He was convicted of possession of a fentanyl-related compound and cocaine possession.

Youngstown police said McElroy was arrested in November on robbery and drug charges after a woman reported being robbed at a gas station in the 1900 block of Oak Street.

Officers said they found McElroy in a vehicle that matched the description of the one the robber used. They found two bags of drugs in McElroy’s groin area, and McElroy admitted he had another bag of drugs in his buttocks. Prosecutors dismissed the robbery charge.
