WRTA has free rides for medical clinic

YOUNGSTOWN — To support access to a free medical clinic Saturday and Sunday at the Covelli Centre, the Western Reserve Transit Authority is providing free rides all day Saturday.

The parking lot at the center will open at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, when people can queue up and wait for tickets to be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis at 3 a.m. The Remote Area Medical mobile clinic will open at 6 a.m.

WRTA’s fixed-route service typically begins around 7 a.m. and finishes up around 5:30 p.m. Complete scheduling information is available at WRTAonline.com.

The service runs in both Trumbull and Mahoning counties, traveling along U.S. Route 422 between the Youngstown and Warren hubs. WRTA does not operate on Sundays.

The services are all free, and users need not present identification.

The RAM event will provide access to dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental X-rays, eye exams, glaucoma testing, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses made on-site, women’s health exams, general medical exams and comprehensive hearing exams, with free hearing aids provided at a follow-up event to eligible individuals. There also will be an orthopedist available.
