Seeing eye: Holistic health screenings scheduled

WELLNESS SCREENING: Soma Essential Healing and Wellness Center, 841 Boardman Canfield Road, Suite 302, Boardman, is offering free total wellbeing holistic health screenings 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center. For an appointment, call 330-539-2320.

Certified Soma essential healing and wellness practitioners will provide screening in four vital areas — spiritual power, improved mental state, emotional resilience and vibrant health — followed by recommendations on how to improve overall

wellness.

SALEM GHOST TOURS: The Salem Historical Society is holding the popular Ghost Tours 8 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 5, 6 , 8 and 10 p.m. Oct. 12, 19 and 26. The Ghost Trolley Tour takes people out of the downtown to famous graves and other “haunted” areas around Salem. Participants may stay on the trolley for the entire tour but walking excursion at several points gives the best view of sites and more information on haunting. Cost is $15.

In addition to the trolley tours, Ghost Walking Tours are also offered 8 p.m. on Oct. 18. During the Walking Tours, participants are guided around Salem to learn the city’s “haunted” past. Participants should wear good walking shoes. It is an easy pace but continuous walking for over an hour. Cost is $10 per person. In addition, a Ghost Dinner is scheduled 6 p.m. Oct. 25 Advance reservations required. Walk-ups accepted if there are openings. Tours may be canceled if minimum not met. BRIDGE CLUBS RENAME TOURNAMENT: America Contract Bridge League Unit 111 hosted the recent Saturday and Sunday Youngstown Bridge Tournament at Andrews Hall. Gary Singer, president and chairman of the unit, announced due to the recent death of his co-chair the Tournament from now on will be known as the “Ruthe Mayberry Memorial Tournament “.

ACBL unit 111-Youngstown is composed of four Bridge Clubs: The Southside Duplicate Bridge Club, The Trumbull County Bridge CLub; The Thursday Morning Bridge Club, and the Canfield Bridge Club.

On Wednesdays, a class is conducted by an accredited ACBL teacher and involves both class instruction and coached play. There is also a mentoring program available to encourage new or returning players.

Bridge lessons are available, and more information is available calling 330-565-1942 and leaving a message.

A STEP BACK IN TIME: Canfield History Walk: A Step Back in Time, is a fundraising event for the non-profit Canfield Historical Society. The History Walk will guide visitors through Canfield’s past, from early pioneer days to the early 20th Century. Local volunteers will portray historical persons and events.

All new presentations for this year include portrayals of Mrs. Yeager’s WW11 Victory Kitchen, the Cholera outbreak, Col. J.M. Nash, The Onion Society, and more, for a total of nine skits. The portrayal of the 1920’s Farmers National Bank robbery will also be included. All will enable young and old to learn more about local history, and foster a love of community.

The event is 4:30, 5:15 and 5:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sept. 28.

The Sept. 28 program will be a sit down evenººt indoors for those who are unable or choose not to do the walking program. Two program times are available on Sept. 28, at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the Canfield History Walk: A Step Back in Time are $10 per person.
