Home where man was shot to death burglarized

YOUNGSTOWN — A woman living in the Russell Avenue home where a man was killed by gunfire early Monday reported that the home was broken into and items were stolen or broken.

The woman said the break-in happened later Monday or early Tuesday.

She had left the West Side home about 8 p.m. Monday and returned Tuesday afternoon to find that two televisions had been broken and items such as jewelry, a Sony PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox 360, clothes and a pair of Nike high top shoes were missing, according to a police report.

The woman said she suspected that the same person or persons who committed the murder also broke into the home.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office identified the homicide victim as Brandon Leonelli, 24.

A 911 caller told a dispatcher that two shots were fired and a woman could be heard yelling.

A Youngstown police news release stated that officers were called at 2:51 a.m. Monday for gunfire and found the man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he died.

The Youngstown Police Department detective division, along with the county coroner’s office, are investigating. Tips leading to an arrest and/or prosecution are eligible for a monetary reward. The police department asks anyone with information or tips to call 330-746-CLUE or 330-746-8YPD. Tips may be left anonymously.
