Austintown Historical Society hosts tea party

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Historical Society hosted two tea parties April 26 at the Strock Stone House, which is a National Historic Landmark.

Each table was adorned with a beautiful lace tablecloth and spring inspired place settings. Ceramic tea pots, cups and saucers were set out for guests and the menu consisted of a combination of savory and sweet delicacies. An assortment of flavored teas was also on the table.

Ceramic tea cups and saucers were available to purchase as well as coffee mugs depicting the Austintown Historical Society logo. Guests also could purchase woven afghans showcasing historical landmarks and wooden 2D art portraits of houses, landmarks and buildings known as The Cats Meow Village.

There also was a raffle for ceramic tea pots.

Margie Goldner, president of the Austintown Historical Society, said they started hosting tea parties after they acquired the Strock Stone House because it was a way for the public to see the beautiful building.

“People were so impressed,” she said.

She highlighted an original piece of furniture that now sits in the main dining area: a 1915 hutch.

Margie said that board members all contribute and help set up, make sandwiches and clean up.

She discussed the history of the Strock Stone House and Austin Log Cabin and stated that both historical buildings are available for tours the first Sunday of the month from March to December.

The Austintown Historical Society hosts two high tea events every year: the spring tea the last Sunday in April, and the Christmas tea, which is the second Sunday in November. Also, like many organizations, they are hosting an America-250 event on July 4.

Margie stressed that hosting such an event would not be possible without the help of volunteers.

Austintown Historical Society lifetime member and first-time volunteer for a tea event, Kay Wilson said, “It’s so lovely how the event came together. So much thought about décor, picking the cups and saucers. It just brings you back to simpler times.”

Guests were encouraged to tour the Strock Stone House afterward.

Starting at $3.23/week.
