COMMUNITY NEWS: Give your input to Mahoning Valley Historical Society

SOCIETY HOSTS FORUM: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a forum at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the main branch of the Public Library Youngstown-Mahoning County on Wick Avenue. The public is invited to weigh in on future programming and exhibit goals as plans continue for the Arms Family Museum and Tyler History Center. Refreshments will be provided.

TEACH TRUTH DAY: Local educators, students, parents and community members are invited to attend the sixth annual Teach Truth Day of Action 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 436 E. Second St., Salem. The event will explore some of Salem’s lesser-known history such as the Mt. Zion AME Zion Church, the Hicksite Quaker meeting house and Hawley’s Grove. The event is part of a national day of action led by the Zinn Education Project. For information, call Heather at 330-356-6371.

MOVE THE VALLEY JUNETEENTH EVENTS: The Healthy Community Partnership, the Mercy Health Stepping Out Program, Youngstown State University Campus Recreation and the Warren Farmers Market have expanded Move the Valley, the longtime Walk the Valley initiative, to the Warren Farmers Market.

The goal of Move the Valley is to improve residents’ physical and mental health with regular outdoor physical activity and social connections to create a sense of community and belonging. Representatives will be at the Juneteenth Celebration at Wean Park, 201 S. Phelps St., Youngstown, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

THE WORLD OF HANDBELLS: Handbell performer and historian Patty Claudio will present the world of handbells program 10 a.m. Saturday for the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society’s Memories of a Lifetime series in the Denny’s restaurant meeting room, 4020 Belmont Ave., Liberty.

All programs are open to the public. Member admission is $10. Nonmember admission is $15. Refreshments and live entertainment are provided. A 50 / 50 raffle will be held to benefit the WHMHS education mission. Walk-ins are admitted, based upon seat availability. For reservations or more information, call 330-726-8277.

TOUR OF MOSS HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral Home, 1499 Burnett Road, Weathersfield, will host a behind-the-scenes tour of the historic home 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Admission is free for historical society members and $10 for nonmembers. This tour offers visitors a chance to explore spaces not always highlighted during regular visits while hearing stories about the home’s preservation and significance in the community. The tour will include the Trumbull County Historical Society for a guided look inside this remarkable historic home and learn more about the people, architecture and local history connected to the property.

MONTHLY DANCE: USA Dance Youngstown-Warren Chapter #2015 will gather 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State St., Girard. All dancers, enthusiasts and supporters are welcome for an evening of smooth, Latin and club dancing.

The evening features ballroom dance lessons sponsored by David Czifra starting with a 5 p.m. Hustle Basics, an intermediate lesson, followed by general dancing from 6:15 to 9 p.m.
